Last night, I met some friends at Tazza. It had been a while so I picked this place and discovered a couple of changes. First of all, they have a NEW LOCATION. Tazza must have been doing great business because the restaurant is bigger than the original space. The new address is: 14065 S. Bell Road. It's north of the old location. Secondly, the name is now TAZZA ITALIAN RISTORANTE. Not far off from the original name (Trattoria Tazza), but confusing for my friends who I told to look for "Trattoria Tazza." Despite the confusion, we still had a FANTASTIC (and I'm sure fattening) experience. The ambiance was warm, although I do miss the intimacy of the old place. The spaciousness of this new location is better suited towards large groups instead of a quiet date night with your significant other. The food was as wonderful as I remember. We started with bread and olive oil. The oil was flavored with fresh garlic. Yum! Make sure you have some Altoids or gum for later. Next was the fried calamari appetizer - fresh (not rubbery) and perfectly prepared with red sauce on the side. Then a salad with the Italian house dressing was just right. My main entree was a regular menu item --- lobster ravioli with Alfredo sauce. DELICIOUS!!! The pasta was perfectly cooked with tasty bits of lobster filling and the right amount sauce. To complete my meal, I enjoyed some coffee and tiramisu, which shockingly I could not finish. Believe me, I tried but my jeans just wouldn't expand! (NOTE: Wear pants with elastic or drawstrings if you don't think you will be able to control your portions!) Overall, Tazza remains a favorite spot for dining out in the Southwest 'burbs. I'll definitely be back!

Okay, here we go again. Saw this place whenever we headed over to Menard's or Home Depot and we could smell it when we parked our car. We always commented that we should try it. The other night we were watching Check Please (A local foodie show on WTTW 11) and I checked out the website for local reviews and saw that Tazza had a review. We watched it and decided to give it a go. We headed over on a Saturday night, worried a bit that there would be a wait. The place was casually busy but we were seated right away. Our server came over after a few minutes and brought us bread. The menu had descriptions of the items which made our decisions a little easier. I went with the pork chops as a baseline for comparison while my wife had the chicken pistachio. We also ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer, something we rarely do. Looking around the place at first glance, it was low lit with nice colors...until you start noticing all the masks and paintings. They were a little unsettling. Kind of like a dark Mardi Gras with freaky clowns. The lights in the place were different; large chandeliers in the middle surrounded by Asian lantern-style lights. If you looked close enough at them, they had Asian patterns in them! I thought it looked like someone raided HomeGoods and Pier 1 for the decor. I mentioned to my wife that it was like Phantom of the Kabuki in there! We each took a piece of bread. For an Italian restaurant, the bread was soft but lacked any flavor. They didn't taste home made, just baked frozen dinner rolls that you could get at a warehouse store. My wife tried the oil at the table...it honestly tasted like plastic. Not good. The calamari arrived and it was quite good. Very fresh, nicely fried and the red sauce went well with a squeeze of lemon. We each got a salad; I had the house Italian and she had the French. The salads were just "ehh" and nothing that you couldn't get at any other generic family restaurant. They needed a creamy garlic dressing. They only had French, Thousand Island and house Italian. The house Italian was okay but nothing to write home about. The food arrived a bit after. My pork chops were very good, quite thick and juicy. The broccoli under it was good, with little chunks of garlic in it. The baked potato was good and their sour cream is quite thick. My wife thought the chicken pistachio was unique but there wasn't enough balance of flavors. She said it was too sweet and not savory enough. We also felt the food wasn't hot enough. We then asked of a dessert menu. Our waitress said they did not have one written down but she read them off to us. (But never mentioned the cost.) She said that they have home made cannoli. So even though we were stuffed, we thought we would try one. What we got were two TINY little cannoli, about the diameter of your thumb and about as long. The filling only was a squirt on each end, hollow in the middle, tasted like imitation vanilla and had green colored PEANUTS (yes, peanuts) on the ends. Cannoli is supposed to have pistachios on the ends. One waitress mentioned that they are usually much larger but they ran out of the big ones. Why can't we find a place that makes good cannoli? We talked about it on the way home and thought there wasn't anything that really "popped". The pork chops were good but I have had better, good calamari, the salads were forgettable, the cannoli was $5 wasted, the bread was average, the oil was pretty bad, the chicken cooked nicely but was one note and neither was warm enough, the baked potato was good, but then again, it was just a potato. Our bill came to just over $50, which we did think the prices were a bit high for what we were getting. Even though it was privately owned, it still felt like a chain restaurant like Chili's or Applebee's. We'll just stick with going to Parmesan's down in Frankfort for our Italian fix. If you're curious, read my other reviews and tell me what you think!

Have been to this restaurant many times and cannot be more pleased with each experience. The food is A+... try the Veal Picante, Shrimp and Broccoli, Tiramisu... etc, etc. Service is always prompt and friendly. Relaxing atmosphere... have absolutely no complaints. If you don't try it ...it's your loss!!!!!

The place is pretty good, It's clean and food is decent. Ravioli is a little plain, like canned. Pasta dishes are about 15.00 which includes a small salad or a small cup of soup. I think Olive Garden is a better deal at 12.00 with unlimited salad and even better with their buy one/take one or unlimited pasta specials. Wednesday they have a two for one dinner menu. If you have three people though you can't take the extra meal home nor do they discount the odd meal. It's full price. Yesterday my second son was late from work so he couldn't join us at the table. Seems kind of odd that is something is two for one but not really. They say it is to "get you in the restaurant". A good business person would understand that two for one means exactly that and if a family member can't make it to dine at the table he/she should be still entitled to the promotion, or the odd person should be entitled to a reduction of price. Done there.

Went here for a night out with my husband. We have been on a search for a good Italian restaurant. This place did not disappoint. The food was full of flavor, good portion sizes and the prices are very reasonable. Can't wait to go back!

Quick Tips for your Life... Food -- Enough for leftovers! Tasted homemade - doesn't get any better than this! Service -- Our waitress was kind, polite, and did her job well. Atmosphere -- Plenty of families and a senior citizen hotspot. Wallet -- A bit pricey Water -- No chlorine/city sewage flavors Greeting -- Upon entering Tazza, the hostess/greeter was unfriendly, didn't make eye contact and definitely didn't smile. What a horrible first impression. Details for your life.... Whoever decorated Tazza must really like Mardi Gras clowns. It seems out of place to have clown paraphernalia everywhere, when the overall décor seems more like an evening outdoor patio... maybe the idea came from Venice, Italy. There are tons of masks and clown souvenirs, but it's still a bad decorating idea. Also, there was an alligator outside. The food was superb! Everything was absolutely delicious! I have no complaints about food or service from the waitress. However, it is not worth the trip if you are relying on public transportation and taxis. From downtown Chicago to Homer Glen took approximately 1.5hours, and taxis companies in Homer Glen proved to be incredibly unreliable causing us to miss our Metra train and wait yet another 1.5hours until the final Metra came by

I found the previous reviews very interesting; let me share with you my experience. I so LOVE the Venetian deco, after spending an extensive period of time in Italy and Venice I appreciated the authentic masks and decor. My mother, aunts and I met for dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food, everything from the fresh bread with the oil dip, baked clams, shrimp scampi, lasagna with Arrabbiata sauce to the wonderful tiramisu. As a matter of fact I asked for the Shrimp Scampi recipe and the owner gave it to me! Perhaps one day I will prepare it as well as Rosie. Fortunately for us there was no wait and our service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Love, love, love this reastaurant. Food is outstanding, service is wonderful and atmosphere is great. Can be romantic if you're on a date and a lot of fun if you're with friends. Veal dishes are out of this world. All homemade sauces. Make sure you stop in if you're in the area.

Have to go against the stream here .. but I cannot join the five star chorus. Maybe my expectations are wrong, we were looking for an authentic Italian experience. What we found was American Italian cuisine, overly pretentious environment that just didn't deliver on food. I have home cooked pasta that had the same ingredients, looked the same and tasted the same. But Tazza charges big bucks for that. A shame though, we were looking for a classy local place. This isn't it.

We had dinner last night to celebrate our friend's birthday. What a great restaurant! Food was delicious and our waitress was terrific. She didn't rush us through our dinner. We thought the price was reasonable and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Thank you for a great time! Suzy

We went there for dinner a couple months back when they moved to their new location. It was a busy night. We walked in and stood there. And stood there and stood there. The hostess looked at us, the bar tender looked at us. Nothing. Finally the hostess said she would be right back to seat us. And we stood there and stood there. Finally left after standing for 5 minutes and NEVER had anyone come back to us. I called the next day, talked to the hostess and told her I wanted to talk to the owner. She said she would give her my message and she would definitely call us back. And we are waiting and we are waiting and still waiting. Will never go back if that is how they treat their customers without even giving a courtesy call back to us.

We have been regulars for the past six years. Fantastic food and service! Amazing Sunday sauce, eggplant parm and Salmon Grigliatta. Very frendly and rivals any downtown Chicago Italian restaurant.

My girlfriend and I decided to try this restaurant as the beginning of our experiment to try new places instead of always going to the same 5 restaurants. Unfortunately, our first choice was a failure. I made us a reservation for 6:45, but we need not have worried. When we arrived there were only 3 or 4 other tables dining. We were seated and provided with water, menus, and bread. Our waitress came and introduced herself and then gave us a few minutes to look over the menus. She then came back and took our drink orders and went back to get them. After she delivered our wine, she told us the specials and then left the table again. We had to wait quite some time for her to come back to take our dinner and appetizer order. For an appetizer we had fried calamari. It was ok, but nothing special, a bit chewy if anything. Next we had our salads, I had the house dressing, my girlfriend had ranch. The house dressing was very runny and had far too much pepper in it, and both salads had too much of the dressing on them. My main course was the Fettuccine Carbonara. It was ok, nothing spectacular but compared to what my girlfriend had, it was good. She had the Linguini with with assorted Seafood over pasta with a white wine garlic sauce. The seafood consisted of clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and calamari. The dish smelled very fishy and most of the seafood was inedible. The calamari and scallops were extremely chewy, the clams and mussels did not look very appetizing, and there was far too much of the sauce in the plate. She did not even eat very much of it and most of her dinner consisted of what I did not eat in my dish. We did not stay for dessert as we wanted to get out of this place. In addition to the subpar food, the service was less than professional. As I have mentioned earlier, our waitress was very inattentive. Our main course took far too long to come out to us, considering that there were not many people dining here. Additionally, the couple dining at the table next to us must have been friendly with a member of the waitstaff, because at one point during our dinner a waitress came to their table, took a chair from our table and sat at their table with them and carried on a conversation. In short, we do not plan on dining at this restaurant again, and I feel that it could benefit from having Chef Gordon Ramsey and his Kitchen Nightmares crew visit.

went here with my wife and I expecting an Italian restaurant at least as good as La Dolce in Lemont, we were very disappointed. Everything too forever!!The baked clams had some tasteless bread crumb mixture with no spices. The sald dressing was watered down, the soup was flavorless( had to add cheese from the shaker on the table for flavor)....but I dont think in was authenic par reg cheese, it looked processed. I had the clams and linguine which was very "greasy" and nothing stuck to the noodles. My wife had the "cheese" lasagna which was ok. ( Never heard of this at an Italian rest,..maybe saving money on the meat?? This place seemed like it was madi gras with the goofy Louisana masks hanging everywhere which I dont understand at all????? ...I will try again and hopefully my next visit is better!..C'mon, also, overpriced. If I was the owners I would order the exact menu items at other ital rest and compare the prices and quality as I think their prices are extreme for what you get.

I found this place thru the Yelp Reviews - Thank you posters! I was looking for a place to take my boys out for their birthdays. We met at 5:30 on a Wednesday. By the time we left it was pretty well filled up. What a Nice Surprise in Homer Glen! Sometimes I find these restaurants in Strip Malls are truly outstanding and this was no exception. They have a nice size bar if you want to just meet for drinks. The dining area is a nice size and is separated into two sections. A meeting of some sort was going on in the back room part but was not intrusive to the rest of the diners. The warm bread with olive oil and spices was so delicious! Excellent! We had delicious entrees and the salad and soup was also very good. They kept filling up our water glasses and taking away empty dishes like clockwork. All in all this was a true treasure to find in the 'burbs. Would definitely go again and again! I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. Don't miss this one, if you are in the area !

We had a reservation for a Saturday night and were seated immediately. It was crowded, but we waited for our drinks, our soup and salad and our server for 30 minutes. After we placed our dinner order we also ordered a bottle of wine. After another 30 minutes I went to the bar and picked it up myself and brought it back to the table. The owner walked past my table 4 times to dote on the table behind us who had a later reservation. She knew we were there forever and receiving bad service. She needed to help our server. Shame on the owner. You are never too important to give good service.

a delicious surprise in a quiet far away suburb! my parents have lived here for years and never found this place, but I'm so glad I discovered it on yelp! a lovely, romantically lit italian one of a kind restaurant... perfect for a date if you live in lockport, orland park, or homer glen. a bit pricey for me, but delicious nonetheless. they do have a whole section of veal (bleh!) but a couple of vegan-izable dishes too, including their egglant "parmisan" minus the parmisan.... yum. and huge! and with salad and pasta/potatoes. So. Much. Food. I just got back from hong kong where portions are half the size they are here. It was quite a nice reintro to American food. yay!

Won't be going back. From the tasteless soup, and table shaker cheese that has been sitting on the tables for who knows?.. And the management staff is unfazed by complaints...It reminds me of Gordan Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares episodes of how the owner thinks his food is perfect and all is Rosey

We walked in at around 7PM on a Sunday and there was no hostess. We stood by the door waiting for the hostess for about 5 minutes. The food was just okay (we ordered the Tazza chicken and the pistachio chicken). The ambiance was nice, however, we were disappointed with the service. There are better Italian restaurants for the price, we won't be going back.

Will not be returned here. Horrible service, over 2 and a half hours to get our dinner. When we complained to the owner, she was extremely rude and blamed us for the problems. Ruined our Mothers Day Dinner. Wish I could give 0 stars.

Tazza is a good Italian restaurant...for the South Suburbs of Chicago. From the average food to the average decor, you can't help but feel like you're sitting in a restaurant in a suburban strip mall....oh wait, you are. The fried calamari was very good, especially the sauce that came alongside for dipping. The side salad was, well, average, as was the Ziti with Vodka Sauce and the Shrimp Diavolo. If I was in the area and in the mood for the Italian I might stop back in, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

What a fantastic, foodie surprise. Fresh, very good quality food; great service from Jennifer; very relaxing atmosphere. They hit all the right notes, including a super-fresh salad; then on to entrees of Chicken Marsala (delicious wine sauce and perfect mushrooms); Chicken Vesuvio - also done quite nicely; and wonderful pasta. Really could not go wrong with the food here. Will definitely be a repeat customer!

Tazza is not far from our house and we visited the original location "Trattoria Tazza" when it was further down on Bell Rd. a long time ago. This was our first visit to the newer spot. When I checked in on Yelp, I was very pleased to see a 15% check in offer. The ambiance in the place is very conducive to the strip mall location it's in - definately not a vibe that will keep people coming back but comfortable and clean. The service was prompt and attentive - we ordered a few glasses of wine and one of the fish entrees that was on the special menu (which my husband said was very good) and I ordered the Escarole, Sausage and Beans and it was marginal. The sausage was flavorful but the escarole and beans were overcooked and a pasty, mess just plopped on top of three pieces of sausage. The side salads that accompanied our entrees were fresh and tasty and of decent size. All in all, the food at Tazza was ok but there are lots of wonderful Italian options that put the "whole package" (food, ambiance, music, service, wine) together very nicely in the same area as Tazza. Because of the check-in offer, I might go back and try a pasta dish or their pizza to see if we missed anything.

The food has been consistently excellent. Beautifully prepared and very tasty. I recommend the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes as an appetizer. You wouldn't think of ordering salmon at an Italian restaurant. But here it was fabulous! And to end the meal, the tiramisu was the best that I've ever had.

We had our baby shower there and they did an amazing job! The service was fantastic! The food was delicious! They helped us setup in the beginning and took care of all the clean up. We couldn't be happier with how our event turned out. Thanks Rosie! Let everyone know we appreciate everything!

Very solid. Lovely service, cute decor, solid menu and good tasting food. The antipasto salad was one of the best I've had! Delicious grilled veggies! Fettuccini carbonara was nice but the chicken visuvio was SO good! Pair them together for a really great meal. Really no complaints! Recommended!

We had a lovely evening at Tazza tonight! Service was great, food was quite good and the atmosphere was lovely. My family and I had the eggplant Parmesan, lobster ravioli, shrimp broccoli linguine and veal tazza. The portions were very big! The restaurant was quite busy which is great for the Homer Glen community. Highly recommend!

***Update on 1/11/15 in response to Mena C's review: In response to Mena C's review...1) I also provide positive reviews on Yelp when warranted. 2) Our table was enjoying beverages however, no one was under the influence. 3) Dramatics? At what point did you look at my plate? Did you go back into the kitchen yourself? I didn't eat my entire meal, the majority of the boxed pasta was pushed away since that is essentially what the dish was comprised of. 4) I'm glad you got to experience Donna's "sweet and calm" demeanor. 5) Not one word in my review was a lie. I'm glad that you had a great experience but unfortunately, our party cannot say the same. Best of luck to you with your wedding plans. On January 10, 2015 our party of 6 had a reservation for 6:30p.m. It took 20 minutes for the waitress, Donna, to even appear and take our drink orders. We order drinks, appetizers, dinner etc. I ordered the scallops with orechette. The meal came out and had farfalle pasta with 4 decent sized scallops on top and 4 medium sized scallops underneath. The waitress neglected to notify me that they were out of orechette. Half way through the meal, I take a bite and pull a black hair, about 1-1.5", out of my mouth. I immediately stop eating and when the waitress comes by, I notify her. She does not apologize and takes my dish away. Upon coming back to the table and us asking for our check, I ask for her name and she replies, Donna. As she is walking away, she snidely states, you can speak with our manager if you'd like. When the bill is dropped off, we see the scallops were not removed nor was an apology ever given. At that point, I decide that I would like to speak with the manager. The manager comes out, who happens to be the owner, and we were speaking near the bar. I explain the entire situation to her and she adamantly replies that she stands behind her kitchen & none of her employees have long dark hair. Per my asking of whether or not their GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices) include hair nets, beard nets, etc. she states that they do and that continues to stress that none of her employees have long dark hair. Side note, the manager/owner was sitting at the table next to us the entire night chatting with four other women. For someone who states that she "stands behind her kitchen", you'd think she would be back there ensuring that her kitchen was functioning properly. She then proceeds to claim that the Department of Health has never given them a score of under 98% on any their audits. She claimed that perhaps, my friend, who has medium length darker hair who was sitting to the left of me at least 2 feet away, had somehow gotten the hair in my plate. Bottom line, I wasn't concerned about her refusal to remove the dish from the bill however, it's the fact that their was a blatant lack of accountability on the owner and the staff's part. There are far more superior choices for Italian dining in the Southwest suburbs and none of the members of our party will ever be returning to this restaurant.

Tazza is a wonderful restaurant...a gem in our neighborhood. Rose is an exceptional artist in her cuisine and service. We had a private event in the past week. She was accommodating in every way. The restaurant is spotless and basic elegance. The food was outstanding...our guests raved at the flavors and freshness.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
